The Whole Day
“So much gets done by me”, she said,
“Because I do not lie in bed,
But spring right up, so I can say
Wahoo! I've got the entire day!“Some people think they've parts of days –
‘Whole chunks the others take away’–
Not me, this day's entirely mine,
Chock-full of choice, and quite sublime.“ ‘This day’, some others say at times,
‘I'll take for me, don't cross that line’;
Not me, I do that every day;
‘Each day is mine’, that's what I say.“You have your own, so why not use
Your day, each day, as you would choose;
That's not a selfish thing to say,
For then time's yours to give away.“I use some time to eat and sleep;
Some time to health and fitness keep;
I use some now for family, friends;
Some time to socks or fences mend.“I use some time to think ahead,
Like, ‘What's some books I'll hope I've read
By time our earth has tilted twice,
Here by the fire, midst snow and ice’?“Some time I use to earn my pay,
So I can take a holiday
And travel where I choose to roam –
Here in my yard, or far from home.“God flavours every part of life;
Enlightens, lifts me out of strife;
He shows me paths I'd not have seen;
Helps me move on from where I've been.“In fact, because all days are mine,
And now I'm making out just fine,
If not for God, a wreck I'd be,
I'd lie in bed in misery.“But no – I'm up and moving ’round;
I smell the roses, feel each sound;
My life is full – chock-full, and rich;
Much better now than in the ditch.So here is how I use my days –
I say to God, “Got any ways
You think that I could be of use,
So I'll no part of this day to lose?“Sometimes He says, ‘Yeah, go see Sam’;
Sometimes, ‘Just do the best you can’;
Sometimes, ‘Hey, did you see that, girl?’
Sometimes, ‘Hang on, here comes a swirl’.“So, salt, and light, and leaven's here
For me each day, because He's near,
They've made the difference you can see
In all I do each day as me.”navigation
