Surgical Strike – (Out)

Got colon cancer, they did a resection –
Took out ten inches re-made the connection;
Colon above it with colon the below it,
Healthy tubes now – I can hardly recall it.

I looked at charting of days of post-labour –
Plenty of projects, adventures I savour
As I considered next week's celebration
From which I’m absent, to my consternation.

Stepped back and noticed my early departing,
(Start of the quest, so it's now worth remarking) –
Early withdrawal from service as Pastor
Enabled quest – freed me up for disaster.

That was the good part – my seeking an answer,
Rest was quite bitter – more like it had cancer;
Calls for resection – pull chunk from the center
Close up the gap so my thoughts can't re-enter.

Chuck it all out, for the rest will be buried
Quite soon in graveyard, not much will be carried –
Others who knew me, my times not remembered –
Start it right now with my history dismembered.

I took the path not as worn back that autumn,
Prepared quite well though I fell on my bottom;
Got up, pushed on that's the part that I'm keeping –
Chuck all the cancerous part of my being.

That's not my party or even my people;
Some that I know from around common steeple;
Pathways diverged as we traveled the woodland;
Frost pointed out that it's not where I now stand.

That cuts a lot of the weight for my journey;
Keeps me from ending my life on some gurney;
Thanks for this way to walk into my future –
Resection now then sew up with a suture.

Just leave it out – do not speak of the cancer –
Focus on health which is the best answer;
Left the rest pass as a part of the process;
Move on in life, its resources now access.

Just like the fire which burned daily and nightly
When leaving Sandy – departure done rightly
Now is the end of an era of labour –
“Pearl of great Price you have purchased – now savour.”

It's more a bypass then colon resection –
I took a fork in the road, my selection –
What I now cut from the part of my history
Part that I bypassed to answer my mystery.

All I am cutting is road I'd not taken
Up until now it gave guidance while making
Path through the forest in search of my answers
Now that I have them, the other's got cancers.

Even the road that I took through the jungle
Indicates mainly the parts that I bungled
What does it matter, the quest was successful
I have a treasure, though journey was stressful.

Going back now to that fork in the pathway,
Taking that road like it's some kind of archway,
Would be disaster, so better remove it
Pearl of great Price – best I go and just use it.

Resection out other pathways not taken
Focus on future, my choice not mistaken
Surgical strike on what isn't essential
Keeping the part which is more fundamental.
