Full Circle

Delightful turn – full circle came
A poem, picture – sent the same
Back to the giver of the book
That in his pain of loss he'd look –

And see the insight she had there
When father died in springtime air –
Felt loss like half-thawed ice and snow
Upon plough-furrowed heart – he'd know.

So he sent back a quote that night
How Rilke’s book had set things right
For her as poet, set her course
To seize her future, no remorse.

I checked it out – ten letters there
Like “Wisdom Lit” which I'd compared
To letters from the Royal Bank –
So now with this small poem thank –

Not just friend Bob, but Tessa too,
Third culture kid – like me – so soothes
Poetic words on net to me –
Such gifts of life to others free.

As cultures of our world mix up,
Our missionary journeys rough
Pay out rich dividends in spades,
As church at home same questions raise.

For we're allergic to each other,
God's Babel-gift church efforts smother;
It slows us down, gives time to think,
Lest we push earth towards the brink.

Allergic-antidote is there –
God-centered life – it clears the air –
God's life flows out through us to earth
A shift from rape to giving birth.

Paul wrote, “Be being filled” each day
With Spirit – (not the ‘moonshine’ way);
Like plane, re-fuelling in the sky,
Take spirit-fuel while flying high.

So, Tessa, thank you for your life
As you moved on from mission's wife
To Scottish poems – pamphlets – net –
My furrowed heart they nourish yet.
