Threads In Time

Oh how strange this interweaving in the fabric of our lives,
As the years roll into decades, and we struggle, fail, and thrive;
We see back two generations, glimpse a couple coming up,
What's most real? – what lies before us and our overflowing cup.

Generations weave a fabric as we move around the world;
We loose sight of friends and neighbours in the tumult and the swirl;
’Of a sudden we're confronted with some portion from our past,
Then we celebrate such meeting reunited here at last.

Sometimes fractures in our friendships can't survive, so we move on;
Sometimes when we get together we find enmity is gone;
Fragile is our life together, yet at other times it's strong,
Rising o’er our different stances and our instances of wrong.

When we take the long perspective, set aside our urge to win,
Letting go of past transgression, foolish moves and outright sin;
When we let old strife between us sweep away with ebbing tide,
We find life resumes its vigour – swept away our urge to hide.

Lord, you urge to us to forgiveness, letting go to move ahead;
You have counselled to move onward, trusting life goes on instead;
Freeing us to rise each morning as we greet the sun each day –
Like the way I feel this morning – thank you, Lord we've walked this way.
