The Empty Chair Across

Ki-lime and tea of peppermint;
Small shop and quiche – how fast it went;
Good break – “not what is meant by me,
But book – and what it wants to be”.

Two pairs – one woman talks a lot;
All thin, no fat here in this shop;
How strange, they eat food on the slope –
Sandwich goes up into their throat.

Two kids eat just like older folks;
All talk, no laughter, too few jokes;
There's one – one girl in group of four;
Crowd thins – a storm outside the door.

Lime taste’s in crust (not pie or cream);
Girl talks, both guys are hers it seems;
One girl no words in sideways slipped;
Guy pays – the waiter grins at tip.

Girl takes her supper in a box,
They leave – no time to eat – she talked;
Which one is really one she likes?
Three brown – the other guy is white.

Young kid with Teddy in her lap;
Two girls sip wine, one beer on tap;
Plaid shirt leans back to enter PIN;
Young love – no others factor in.

All done – I'm out into the storm,
Last night in condo – least it's warm;
Nice end – three years in here with mom,
Too bad – her outing days are done.
