My Fathers World

I walked into his world today
Not day I mean, world anyway –
Of working-folk – no buffer there
One does okay while weather’s fair.

For treatments only touch one part
(Hence need for me of healing art),
But at another level leave
One broke in ways few can conceive.

It incapacitates our work –
We need some help – at best we lurk
Around the scene of our employ
Like shadow-days as girl and boy.

It cannot work – it never could,
Yet I agreed – and said I would –
Not based on facts and numbers known
But as the seed the Sower's sown.

God' s world – a world turned upside down
(Discomfort for us half-way-clowns) –
Invites us to a world of whirl:
“Change chemo-vortex to His swirl”.

For freed from center of the storm,
Invited to His fireside warm,
This swirl of interactive life
Engages here for self and wife.

I think I see, but really, not;
I know some parts, the ones I've got;
But who can guess the Master's ways,
And preview life's emerging days?

So, aches and pains, disrupted sleep,
As I another's workplace keep
Are nothing in that larger scene,
Yet teach a life which he has seen.

For me? All this comes to an end;
I do my part, short-help I lend;
Thus set in motion who knows what,
God bids us pass to others – “luck”.

As we to working-folk pass on
Some hours, some energy, in song,
Our recompense by God is paid,
As wholeness in their lives is made.

Lord, as his treatments now proceed,
Help all of us find what we need
To make it through impactful days –
Let laughter aid the treatment's ways.

Two weeks now past – my training time –
I ache and creek in joints and spine
As I gear up for longer span,
Help me mature to be Your man.

Somehow in reciprocity
Enable him content to be,
For givers quick “indebted” see –
Ah! now I sense Your role for me –

For everyone has stuff to share
Like land, and water, sun, and air;
And information for my use
Learned best by me when I'm turned loose –

Upon a task or context new –
You share with me, I share with you –
Let others enter in their ways
Find life fulfilled in Kingdoms ways.

Like acorn dropped from tiny cup,
New life emerges, trees spring up;
As soil and water mix with seed,
Birds find the nesting-place they need.
