Church Unity Sunday

How I love to rush ahead
Here, these days – no longer dead
(Or dying as appeared before)
Straining on my leash at door.

“Broken spirit”, “contrite heart”,
Don't describe (beyond my art);
Yet I watch the trail laid –
Constant, steady, progress made.

“Wait upon the Lord”, I read
Nod, for thus I have been led
From the outside, not within,
As I this new life begin.

River-like, this peace I crave
In me, not just trail leave –
Unity – without, within
Move beyond release from sin.

Maybe that's the point herein –
Eden fractured – more than sin –
Unity – was broken up;
We don't crave that sacred cup.

In Your unity, O Lord
Comes the peace found in Your Word;
We can rest as others press
Forward, rest of life address.

Trail that's laid – not ours alone –
As we skills and ploughshares hone;
Our success and victory –
Work of One – community.
