Psalm 24:4c

The icy roads are slick these days
As traffic passes on its way;
At intersections worst of all
Where cars slide on, and people fall.

So too, in business in The Peg –
Slick intersections shift the leg
So fast – 'tis done – before one knows
One's fallen down – and out He goes.

I doubt if folks are devious,
Or even that mischievous;
It's more the ways they've gone before
Have slicked the ice, so slide the more.

“Sign here”– I do – though have no power,
And signing, give within the hour
A phony lie, “don't hesitate –
I make no money while I wait –

“So let's conspire to bend the rules,
Just like those cheaters back in school;
‘It's always done’, ‘like cat and mouse’,
So sign your name – speed sale of house”.

“Think back now, Stu – first words he said,
‘Won't trust that guy till words are read
From someone else, this is legit’
So ‘twisted see the twist’– to wit.”

So how could one much better act
When actions slip away from the fact?
Sign, “Donald Duck ” or “What's your name?”
“Here sign this cheque for me – the same”?

Or maybe sign, “Good luck, my friend”
Then on his way such fellow send;
Let him explain it when 'tis read,
Thus, play the game – and game be read.

For that is how he operates,
“Stay in the lines, don't hesitate
To bend and stretch who regulates,
Just push on through, don't contemplate”.

So think about his actions now,
And contemplate a better ‘how
To bring such slipping to a halt’–
Like city truck – spread sand and salt.

The sand to walk on better grip;
The salt to flavour life a bit:
“Hey, fellow man, above this rise,
Firm-footed now, see how we thrive.”

That's how they got the gay-folks in
To preach, and bless, and say, ‘Amen’–
They packed to the court, friends filled the hall –
“End justifies the means, that's all."

And in the short-term, great! It worked!
But longer-term we raise up jerks –
The kids grow up in Winnipeg
Absorb slick ways – slick things are said.

Lest on and on it goes my friend,
To you this URL I send;
Hope in my words of poetry,
You better intersections see.
