Mission-Band

I guess if I'm a Creenglish-man and ‘Giver’ is my gift,
That makes me “Indian-giver” type – now that should cause a rift
Between me and my target group of Givers and Finance,
A giver-financier in there with hoopla, song, and dance.

For-givers (sic) in global town, ubiquitous we are
We're found in every culture, land, and language near and far;
Some culture-groups prefer that gift and genuflect its way;
If you that giver-gift express – why it's your lucky day!

That's true for all the gifts there are, each group extols some mix
Of gifts, as “gift of preference”, front and center as their pick;
Then all the gifts dance ’round that pole, find ways to do their lives
With flavour of that central mix – that's how each culture thrives.

So what am I? This Creenglish-man out here in Giver-land?
How ’bout my wife, a Scottish lass, in this elusive band?
When working on reserve up North, at least we saw their skins,
Which gave a racial-flag to us – a cue to space there in.

But givers are ubiquitous, in every race and tribe,
And cultures round the world profess “the giver way” as guide;
And more than that, they quiet are, behind the scenes in life,
So – how to flush them from the bush – perhaps by way of life?

I've heard it done with Rolex watch, and understated might;
But there's that “millionaire next door” whose status is as bright.
I know I've seen on Boxing Day, way early near the dawn,
One part of their illustrious group's perusing bargains round.

I've also found in workshop groups a Giver here and there;
They often find it hard, for they're well-rounded when compared
To others who one gift or two bright front-and-center are
Unlike Compassion's “blended soup”, segmented thought sees far.

But hey, its second gift for me, Encourager's my game;
I understand instinctively, though focus not the same;
But that's okay, I'm there assigned – if good enough for Him,
It's good enough for us as well, this world we've entered in.

What task am I to be about in Giver-world that's here?
Why, enter into life with them, like Bruchko, that is clear.
Run down their trails; do life their way; connect up with their kin;
Alert to bridges out of there, assess the state they're in –

How does each Giver-type connect with others in their world?
How do the other gifts do life within their Giver swirl?
What are their needs? Successes bright which lighten up their days?
At what do they pay out their time?  What do as work and play?

Why would you do that – watching them? A researcher of sorts?
Well, no, more Apostolic type – to be of good report.
For I'm no “culture-buster” type, light footprint on the ground,
Is all I want to leave behind, as I am walking round.

I'll leave my big boots at the door, and live my life with care;
Discover what their lifestyle is, and gently do life there;
It really doesn't matter much where I should do my life,
For I'm a “culture-of-one-guy”, quite different from my wife.

Except, as Scottish both of us have tasted Giver-land –
Ancestors in our families' worlds where of that kilted brand.
But we are not, I Creenglish man, and Canada she's from –
Some other flavour she's picked up, so not just pipes and drums.

That gives us both a taste of how that central core plays out –
Not as the only way it can, but one without a doubt;
For freedom's there – a common base, yet different flavoured ways
To live a life in Giver-land, fill out our working days.

We're bridging folks in Giver-land to other gifts around,
In such a way life's enriched for all, on common ground.
Not breaking walls of great divide twixt how we do our lives –
We bring the salt, light, leaven in, so everybody thrives.

So, jokes aside bout who I am, as “Indian-giver” here,
Whatever that's supposed to mean, this task is for me clear –
“If you this mission should accept, know this, my little boy,
It is the last you will fulfill, as I your gifts employ –

“So have a blast, have fun, enjoy, live life out there with glee;
Don't drag around long-faced and think that somehow pleases me;
It doesn't – so get on with life, however you think best,
For living here with Me is where you'll live your days out next.”
