Appreciation

The view, the pause, the little flaw
That's noticed speaks of hungry maw
Absorbing, seizing, taking in
All life around – let praise begin.

From silent standard from afar
In time and space where critics are
Ensconced in gallery for some –
“Meet standards high if praise be won”.

When all it takes is, “Hey!”, “O Wow!”
Excitement building as the prow
Of little boat cuts through the waves
And spray refreshes racing days.

When we have others win our race
Not for this present lively day,
But for approval in our head
Of critic voice, now long since dead –

We cannot win – the bar's too high
To persevere, all else must die,
And why? They had their joyous day –
Come on – in freedom let us play.

For life is short, hereafter long;
Take hold of life where we belong –
Engage with zest, life's in our grasp
As they engaged life in the past.

For when today we here engage,
Appreciation has its day;
We under-stand; sub-mission thrives;
So all at finish-line arrive.

But best of all are days of mirth;
Release-full laughter's precious worth;
Encouragement's explosive might;
White sails, tight trimmed, in sunshine bright.
