Slight Auction-Bidding Nod

He asked, “Who is the one who's here
Who's in a knot – perhaps from fear
Who needs it straightened once for all
Not bound up tight in stomach ball?”

I should have raised my hand last night
But didn't – pride? Confusion? Fright?
I hate the limelight, let me be –
Enough it's known by You, and he.

Sometimes a lonesome valley ours
Sometimes lone seasons, minutes, hours;
We walk that walk – you know our ways
And what's in store in future days.

We like to see our way within
Once freed from guilt, persistent sin;
We get so restless to break out
From dark confusion's restless route.

Yet here as we spend restless days,
You know our future walk and ways;
So bid us wait in soldiers' lair
Till “whites of eyes we see out there”.

There's time for clarity and acts,
But we don't always have the facts
So move with prematurity –
Go off half-cocked – such surety.

I am a man of ordinance
Was raised, ‘Imperative you dance
And strut your hour upon the stage,
Take on those windmills, go engage’.

Much harder lesson in my walk
Is cooling heels and ceasing talk;
For high explosives take some care
Which those who use them are aware.

Nee said, “The time will come for all
When we dread action most of all” –
Such action as You bid me, Lord,
For costly to us is Your Word.

Then we are not so quick to move
At impulse of your heavenly love;
For cost is clear, demands our all
That road blocks blow, and limits fall –

Not just for us, but neighbours too,
Then it is clear what we must do –
All that we have, will be, and are,
Pour at your feet, like Mary's jar.

Lord, settle here within my breast
My consecration, give me rest
That I might wait with patience here
And ready be to act – no fear.

Next week that man will speak and act;
Perhaps he'll heal some person's back;
On broken spirit pour the balm;
Blind sight restore midst worship Psalm.

You act, O Lord, despite our pride;
Respond to calls from deep inside
Our restless, broken, knotted selves;
Pour life in our persistent hells.

This week will bring some clarity –
Perhaps not much, next step will see.
“Run at full stretch”, our longing cry,
“Just one more time before we die”.

It's hard to show restraint in love –
Trust Angel-tears express Your love;
Await Your ways in others' hearts;
That life, for all of us, might start.

So help me Lord to bide my time;
Await in patience role that's mine;
My envy drop of other’s road –
Through “this or that” Your love explode.
