The Surge

There's an energy that's flowing now the readiness is here;
Caught it in the evening service – music, and in message clear;
Went to church for evening service with my spirit in the swamp,
Felt the music and the lyrics lift me high, and get me pumped.

For there's time for preparation; having road-blocks taken down;
There's a time for consternation, doubt, reflection, trapped in town;
But there's also time for action, “one more venture” in our day;
Then it's time for bursting shackles, as God's kids go out to play.

“Why sit here until we perish?” Smoky clothes on Daniel’s men?
Why a rod to ground the current? – let its power flow out again;
There have been those crucifixions from ourselves and from the rest,
But there's also resurrection, burst of “highest and the best”.

When a plane has shorter runway, there's a trick to rising up:
Put the brakes on (tie a rope to trees for float-planes in the rough);
Rev of the motor, then release it, hold a course right for the trees;
Then when air-speed is sufficient, it will lift up fast, with ease.

It's the roar of engines starting which vibrated in that church;
It's the pull of brakes or tether which I felt give quite a lurch;
It's excitement of the take-off, baggage stowed, and belted in;
It's the thrill of autumn weather, crisp the air as we begin.

There were years of preparation, lots of “plan-B.'s” on the way,
As the soil for growing cleaned up, seed prepared for this new day;
Though it's tempting to take over, get the bit between my teeth,
There is also time for flowing with resources we will meet.

There's a time to let the engines do their lifting from the lake;
There's a time to feel the thrilling as we start to journey make;
There's a time to settle back and feel the G’s build in our pants;
There's a time for roaring motors, giving praise, ecstatic dance.

Sure, there'll be tomorrow's boredom, droning over dense terrain,
But today there's an excitement as I lift to air again;
With the brakes released, (I feel the axe quick cut the tether-rope),
I'm released into the future, next adventure's now in scope.
