Von Clausewitz, historian of Bonaparte and all his kin,
Went on, and on, and on, for all who yearned to do war right,
Said Bonaparte perspective had on war-transactions which he'd had:
He saw himself peace-loving guy, “It's they who want to fight not I –
If they would just capitulate, accept to my rule, get over it,
Why there'd be peace throughout the land, then maybe they would understand –
For war's not from offensive one but from defence it always comes.
War’s essence is ‘smash and destroy’, for which their armies are deployed
Such wonton crushing of the best I do not wish – just to possess –

Possess you may not wish of me, or all around that you can see;
The fine, but I am good for all – the best, in fact, though stature's small;
Why look – I took ideals raised in revolutionary days
And burst the bonds of Frankish ground, thus shared their goodness all around;
I standardized the metric rule; our laws set straight by which to rule;
Who would not want such benefit, once close enough to look at it?
No, it's not me who wants to crush with force of arms and soldiers’ rush –
Defenders are the cause of war – those loving freedom who get sore.”

And so today self-righteous few caught up with self-important view
Stride over others forthrightly quite puzzled why we just can't see
How good their life would be for us if we'd capitulate – no fuss.
Well, sorry guys and gals who stride, surprised we do not run and hide,
If you'll not hear what's clearly said, back off your stance, with truth be fed,
You're right – it's war, provoked by you – for we'll defend our point of view.
The truth you do not comprehend, to which your ears you will not bend
Is, “Life is complex, lots of us do not agree, which makes for muss;
If we'll agree to disagree, let other folks in freedom be,
Time heals a lot – allow its charm, to work for us, for what's the harm?”
I know all this simplistic is, it's more complex, life always is;
It's just I'm pleading for this day – back off insisting on your way.
