Kodak Moments

You give us Kodak moments, Lord,
     As we go down our chosen road;
          Burn pictures in our memory;
               Small fragments – of a child at play;
                   Or loving eyes; a touch; a gift;
                        A laughing glance, one we've not missed.

Tonight she stooped to light the flame
     (To dimness of our circle came
          To visit our community;
               To greet the Rabbi; hear; and see),
                    Four thousand years her family's lit
                          Those candles at the start of it –

Shabbat, which ends the working days –
     Starts day of rest, for word and praise;
          Her dark hair framing soft-lit face,
               Dark sweater isolating it –
                    Forever in my memory now
                         That match, that face, that action,
                              Wow...
