Here I Am

Two ways to say “I'm here” there are
In Hebrew – like in French
Two ways to greet each other if
A princess or your wench.

“I'm over here” can indicate
“I'm over here”– that's all;
But when compliance is involved –
“I'm here, I'll take the fall”.

At Eden, as with burning bush,
Isaiah's call as well,
Made use of second form of speech,
‘Location’ God to tell.

Said Abraham when talking with
God on that fateful day,
“I'll do whatever thing you ask
And any cost I'll pay”

The only trouble was his mind –
All cluttered from his past;
(Unfettered giving's dynamite
With mind locked in one's past).

He heard it wrong – but pushed on through
To sacrifice his son;
But in dynamics of that day
His second vision won.

That's nice, but stop a moment here,
Stu, where have you said, “yes
I'm here, Lord – unconstrainedly”,
Laid at his feet your best?

That's easy, Lord, 'twas in your call
(Or ‘sending’ actually)
Which locked on fast that vibrant day
Although I could not see.

As I look back, I see it now,
Past models blocked my view;
But through a walk of loyalty
You helped me to see ‘Stu’.

Then here today, with years gone by,
You cleared away the trash,
So I could see with clearer view
Exactly what you asked.

I'd showed keen interest in the church,
“Renewal ” was the game;
You said, “okay, but buckle down
Lest you be killed or lame”.

The road was lumpy, and I learned
About Third Culture Kid;
Then through the fiery furnace came,
On mouth you put a lid.

I could not see why not to fight
That blatant travesty;
But you said, “Give it to me, Stu,
And later you will see”.

Today I saw it – marvellous
Solution to their fix;
The problem wasn't even there
Back at the start of this.

How could you speak of needs back then
That had not even grown?
But your solution to their fix
Lay in the seed you'd sown

A multi-play you had worked out,
Fixed me while on the way;
Then in that cauldron of a mess
Laid base for harvest day.

I see it now, in Isaac's case,
The role he played with dad
Was quite laid back, without a word
Till Abe saw what he had.

It was at that point in the tale
That Isaac was released;
Abe cut the ties that bound him fast
Released his hands and feet.

As Abe found freedom in his growth
And reined his giving in,
Son Isaac, freed up, moved himself
To adult life begin.

Lord you have taken to account
Our needs and those of group;
If we will show up when we're called
Say, “Here I am” to route –

You'll honour us just where we are
With stunted growth and all,
Then grow us up to your design
Till we and the group are tall.
