Apostles

I finally found a statement clear
How Catholics view ‘Apostles’dear –
Big Peter passed to Pontiff down,
The others now wear Bishop’s crown;

The clergy do their daily grind,
With missions sent both cash and kind.
I'm not at all surprised at this
From point of view that is Creenglish –

Where Roman culture in the past
Their darkening power-shadow cast
They liked to be the one on top,
With Pax Romana’s silly talk.

The way I see it from this place,
When Christ sent men to human race,
Each presentation compromised,
With harsher concepts sanitized;

‘Humility’ to Roman ears –
(A summing up of all their fears)
Would have to wait a later time,
To hear a message of that kind.

So as we look back to the Jews
And seek what's missing from Good News,
Or search the Scripture’s pages now
Christ's model speaks a better ‘how’.

I see it rather logically –
“That's how the Romans came to see
Their place and role in Mission task,
(They were quite big, their way did last) ”.

However, lots of culture-rooms
Are in God's house – though Rome subsumed
The others through their power thrusts –
That's good for them, but not for us.

My culture hears it differently
(Though Creenglish culture is just me)
‘Apostle’ is as Paul wrote out –
‘A border-crosser’ without doubt.

Once border’s crossed, word drops into
Each culture, lifts its point of view;
Apostles then move on again
Cross other borders, much the same.

But now the cultures move around
Apostles stay where they are found;
The task is pretty much the same –
A gospel border-crossing game.

So, yes the Bishops carry on
When first Apostles moved along;
But leave at home your culture’s weight,
Don't border-cross with all that freight.
