The Aleph-Beyt

Lived next door to Phoenicians,
Absorbed their letters too;
Israelis learned their Aleph-Beyt –
Wrote stuff for me and you.

But minds they had reflective,
It was their point of view;
So when they learned their  ABG’s,
They thought about them too.

‘Alyph's” a silent letter,
Which got the show on road;
They viewed it like God's unity
From which creation flowed.

“Beyt” was the second letter,
Beyt has a meaning too –
It means a ‘house’, ‘container’ which
God placed His things into.

But why did God create this –
Our universe so fair?
An ‘urge to give’ welled up in Him –
Expression of his care.

But ‘one’ He was, ‘together’,
No place for Him to give;
He backed off from His unity,
Made space for us to live.

Then in this space for living
Expressed He, ‘Let there be...’
Not words or sounds – like mother's milk –
‘Expressed’ that life might be.

So Aleph, God's full being,
Is seen within all things;
Infusing life from great to small
And thus creation sings.

And Beyt’s ‘the house’, ‘container’,
‘Expression of God's love’,
‘Container for his flood of life’–
Within, below, above.

The thanks we give back to Him
Full Circle makes the flow –
Though words one hundred times each day
Fall short of what we know.
