Lost In Translation
It seems that God's message to Abraham was
Different in English than Hebrew because
Lost in translation from Hebraic tongue:
Abraham's journey – an internal one.King James's Bible translation is good,
Reflecting men who in England stood
Wondering ’bout life away ’cross the sea
Travels of kinfolk out there meant ‘journey’–So they read, ‘get out’– a new land in view –
’Cept in the Hebrew, old Abraham stewed:
Problems with home culture churned up within,
Raising discomfort with his kith and kin.Thus, on the outside, he lived there in Ur,
But on the inside he'd journeyed from her;
So one day God said not, ‘get out of here’,
But ‘go to yourself’, (which will mean leaving here).So too, today with our world in a mess,
Many have changed – inward journeys no less –
‘Go to yourself’– is it word to the wise,
Showing a way to get on with our lives?navigation
