Crossing The Line

Watchmen said we're all like that when
Given a chance,
Spite self-righteous protest in our
Song and dance;
Key for some is getting caught
At end of day'
(Speeding – hoping Queen is looking
Other way).

Refrain:
Yes Sir, that is us, who be
Squirming, on the hook you see
Wishing we had not got caught
Getting into what we've bought.

Crossing lines in every part of
Life each day,
' Cept where highway of our lives goes
Other way;
Lying, cheating, stealing – slippery
As can be;
Good in others' view because
They just can't see.

Double-crossing friendship just to
Get our way;
Anger, hurting, pressure, murder,
If it pays.
Cast-off parents, spouse or brother,
Sister, child;
Shrug of shoulder, quite disdainful
Strong or mild.

Shirk the Sabbath, tramp His name be-
Neath our boot,
Chasing rainbows of our fancy –
Hot pursuit.
Plotting acquisition of our
Neighbour’s tools,
Cars, and houses, wives, possessions;
Breaking rules.

Adulterating (that's polluting)
All in sight;
Violating neighbour’s freedom
Day and night;
Gossip, slander, libel, stories
Just not true;
Out of sight, or plain as day, gives
Quite a shew.

What's the cause of all this mayhem?
Can't you see?
'Tis 'survival of the fittest'
Yes, sirree;
If we are not the fittest persons
On this day,
Then we'll cut whatever corners –
Get our way.

How to step down off this treadmill,
Walk away?
In a context where our neighbours
Act this way.
Lonely is the journey once we
Choose that route,
Loss of money, and our lives in
That pursuit.

Jesus sent Apostles said, “An
Other way –
Shown by God to Jews of old – it's
Here today;
Let the Spirit lead away from
All that strife;
Salt, and light, and leaven,
Quali-fies your life. ”
