Passing Time

We don't hear of others’ passing
From this place to life beyond,
Taking from our lives their pleasure
And the moment to respond.

Global life was value-added
To our life constrained below;
But the strain it puts on friendship
Few in life before would know.

Refugees, and business travelers,
Speakers, restless, and the brave,
Missions, experts, venture seekers,
Curious, crossed stormy wave.

Now it's rampant, swirling millions
Mix and travel far from home
Living through this great transition
Cut from news as far we roam.

But the structures of the village
Slowly grow, replace old ways –
Now surveillance electronics
Fills the role that gossips played;

Internet, and cyber visits,
Chat rooms, feeds, and news galore,
Link us to our former life-space
Letting us go forth with more.

Till the structures of this village
Find new ways to fill the space,
Missing word of friendship’s passing
Cheapens life for human race.

Nothings changed, our old life follows –
Scope and scale expand our view;
Human life has need of friendship
Birth till death – full life with you.
