First Snow
First snow has turned our world into a wonderland of white,
It's sticky nature edges all the branches in our sight;
It pulls the detail from our world and draws attention there,
While covering the world of undone chores of autumn fare.Inside the house work pushes on – we upstairs renovate;
It's at the stage when cover’s gone – ’bout much as we can take:
The stipple’s off the ceiling, paper’s gone from walls – with glue –
The carpets off the floor, replaced with plaster dust and goo –The kitchen wall’s pulled down to open up (the modern way);
There's piles of hardwood, boxed up still, well – half – up till today.
My learning curve on carpentry pulls nine G’s – what a ride,
As fans and open windows pull the moisture from inside.So all is well on outside now, while chaos rules within;
It's quite reverse of last year faced with errors, docs, and sin.
I now recall a fellow – had to learn to walk again;
Said often, “This stuff’s not a problem, viewed from where I've been”.So, if it lasts, this snow will cover up my world till spring,
When it will melt revealing smells and sights which make me sing.
By then the gyprock will be painted, hardwood floor laid down,
And calm within our home will let me dig in springtime ground.So much in life is not complete, not perfect ’neath this snow –
Things get abandoned, passed along, as stuff we just outgrow.
Life moves along, and drags us too, when we can do no more;
Then opens up new vistas – of what summer has in store.navigation
