Christmas 2009

Last Christmas in our home this year,
Then tree and tinsel disappear,
Family and friends go separate ways,
Rich mem’ries of shared holidays.

Freed from the tasks of space and time,
New challenge fills our hearts and minds:
As guests who come on Christmas day,
How best to fill this role we'll play?

Through us excitement fill the room?
Regret that we must leave so soon?
Serene our quiet rocking chair?
Presence, and listening word of care?

Lord may we now enrich their space,
Each moment overflow with grace,
Into their homes bring peace and joy –
Of what remains of life employ.
