Art Therapy

A palindrome it was today – one quite sublime,
Oh-nine, oh-nine, oh-nine, oh-nine, oh-nine, oh-nine;
I guess for me it was a good day to move on –
Back to my projects, see what new life I could spawn.

She said last night there’s only one more class to go
Because on mat-leave she would go to have her boy.
Suggested I, committee make of group that’s core
To carry through our sessions till she comes once more.

I doubt they’ll pick it up, because they seldom do –
Perhaps I put more weight on acts of folks than’s due.
I firm believe that folks are blessed much more to give
Than take, and take, and take, as way that they must live.

But cancer and old age take ‘chance to give’ from life
So sap of life remove, as “we can't handle strife”.
Perhaps – but back last fall he gave me chance to give
And that diverted thoughts; and reason gave to live.

It's all tied up with cash in ways I cannot see
It's not an ideal world – of course, least not for me;
Somehow this ‘rights-y’ thing has swept in here below
As strong defence against abuse – like someone knows.

I think of mom who threw the church did ESL
When grants were not forthcoming – carried on just swell.
“The help is just for those who to the workforce go.”
“Says who?” she scoffed, and hundreds English language know.

The paying program dropped when teaching funds dried up;
Hers carried on and thrived the more when others stopped.
Sure, money's nice, it feeds and clothes the teachers well,
But best divorced from work itself or it’s from hell.

The palindrome has meaning only on this day
Because our Saviour came to earth to show the way;
We think it's cute to note the pattern in our time
As flavour from the culture’s fruit goes – leaving rind.
