Await My Soul

I’m glad this line, which moves on to the front,
Does not move fast, for there I must confront
A host of issues with perspective changed,
All’s down-side-up, perspective re-arranged.

I feel like Bobby Bondar in her craft;
She whirled around in orbit till at last
The ship touched down, her pictures’ and her mind’s
Constraining view destroyed – as she would find.

In Plato’s cave she’d also been enchained
Like all of us, for that we can’t be blamed;
For all of us up until recently,
Saw Earth is flat, and at its center, “me”.

But she’d escaped the structures of our view,
Forever changed, sees more than me and you;
Her point of view expanded by her trip,
Now shared with us through photographs and lip –

Not pictures from her travels over Earth,
But more her work informed, like second birth;
How does one see prosaic life below,
When in her mind, there’s something we don’t know?

When man first flew above the British plains,
They spotted lines where villages and lanes
Had once been placed – how people in the past
Were grouped and spaced – recovered at long last.

Through photographs and film we all can see
The view from space, though we will seldom be
The ones to fly so high above the land;
Through Bondar’s pix, we too can understand.

But even more, as she proceeds to shoot
Her pictures here, a passion in pursuit
Of viewing life with new, celestial eyes,
Our view expands of Earth below the skies.

So here in line, as we await some task
To do for Christ, for He, quite soon will ask,
I feel like Bobby whirling around in space,
Ten days and nights – so short in any case.

When we return, from this celestial view,
We can live life with eyes and mind renewed,
And take our pictures, write our many books,
From point of view which colors how life looks.

Lord, thanks for that – a line which moves so slow;
As I look down, I want this view to know;
To hold this way of viewing all of life,
From this perspective through both day and night.

So as I drink this scene here with my eyes,
I don’t my former view of life despise;
It’s more, “expanded”, parts all re-arranged;
My view of life forever has been changed.
