At B.U. Music has an Arts component and a "stand alone" component. As Dr. Glen Corothers pointed out the way it is structured depends on the institution, and that when it is structured in with the Arts faculty, as at the Lakehead it is sometimes a rough fit though the points of intersection with the humanities and arts are very strong. He added that there are two types of Doctorate in music, one which involves the standard academic thesis and the other which involves composition of a major work and a performance of it.[]Glen noted that there is a long history of recognition of the creative side in education in the Music field.[]
